Product Description
Against all odds, Katniss Everdeen has survived the Hunger Games twice. But now that she’s made it out of the bloody arena alive, she’s still not safe. The Capitol is angry. The Capitol wants revenge. Who do they think should pay for the unrest? Katniss. And what’s worse, President Snow has made it clear that no one else is safe either. Not Katniss’s family, not her friends, not the people of District 12. Powerful and haunting, this thrilling final installment of Suzanne Collins’s groundbreaking The Hunger Games trilogy promises to be one of the most talked about books of the year.

Heartbreaking September 6, 2010 S. Ely This was a brilliant finale. But be warned it's very sad at times and Suzanne Collins doesn't have a problem killing anyone apparently. But I'm happy with how it ended. The only negative I have for it is that sometimes it drags on longer than it should in places.
Mockingjay September 6, 2010 Z. M. (Utah, USA) Before I begin my review, I would first like to say what an incredible and delightful series I thought Hunger Games was. Mockingjay is no exception and I must say I am utterly shocked at the many bad reviews this book received.
********SPOILERS AHEAD*********
The book starts out with Katniss Everdeen visiting her old home-one that is now just a bunch of rubble. District 12 is completely destroyed. All of the districts, but for 2, are now rebelling against the capital. And Katniss Everdeen finds herself unwillingly being the symbol, the face of the entire rebellion. She only found out days ago herself while also finding out that fellow tribute Peeta Mellark is being held prisoner in the capital.
Lucky for her, Gale Kaniss's best friend managed to get a small portion of District 12 out alive. Her family and some friends are now leaving in the very real and alive District 13. In District 13 things are rather different. Everybody lives underground, has a schedule stamped on their arm everyday, and food is given in precise amounts. Life seems simple enough, but District 13 isn't everything it seems.
The president of District 13-Coin-has her own ideas. Katniss once again finds herself another game piece in Coins game. While Katniss agrees to be the face of the rebellion, Coin weighs that if she steps one foot out of line she will kill all that Katniss loves.
Throughout the beginning of the book Katniss goes to different ares of Panem and is broad casted live. She mainly goes around to show what the capital is doing to the country.
Meanwhile the rebels manage to rescue Peeta. Katniss is overjoyed, until Peeta almost manages to kill her. After Peeta managed to warn district 13 about an attack the capital tortured him. By injecting him with small doses of tracker jacker venom they have brainwashed Peeta into hating Katniss.
Throughout the book characters start making bigger appearances and we can finally get a look at what's been going on besides Katniss's world. We see a lot of Finnick, Johanna, Prim and especially Gale. I've always been a Peeta fan, but this book made me realize what a great character Gale was.
Soon the entire country comes to a full war. Katniss along with select others is sent to the capital. Fabricating a mission when the time presents itself, Katniss claims she came to kill the president. And that is exactly what she plans to do.
She comes so close, but in a way she still loses. In the middle of the capital her younger sister is killed. And Katniss watches it all.
The end is rather surprising and disappointing to most, but I liked it. It was true Katniss spirit to the end.
As for the love triangle, the conclusion is Peeta and for good reason.
This book is positively amazing and one that you forget easily.
IT ENDED LIKE IT WAS SUPPOSE TO END September 6, 2010 G.Montoya (California) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Alright, so yes this last book of the series was different compare to the First two. The action really begins around page 260 or so. BUT there's other stuff going on, Katniss is making decisions, waiting, making decisions, waiting, fighting, and so on. I think the author really took us on a different journey and believe me when you are done with this book, you will feel hungry for more! That's how i felt, i wanted more, i felt drained, but one thing for sure, I was NOT DISAPPOINTED. This book had a great ending, i cried and believe me you will too.
A sadly missed opportunity for an otherwise awesome series. September 5, 2010 Michelle (South Jordan, UT) 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
I heard others' negative comments before I read this final book in The Hunger Games series. Therefore, I tried to go into it with an open mind. The first half of the book bored me to tears. I mean, regardless of the depressing content, it was just painfully boring. When I finally got 1/2 way through the book, it picked up a bit, but missed some of the essential plot points that needed to happen in order to make this a fantastic series.
This book should have been the point at which Katniss changed from a victim to a leader. It should have been the turning point where she CHOSE to be the mockingjay. . . where she CHOSE to use her influence for the greater good. Instead, she was turned into a weak, mentally unstable character. She was unable to cope with the horrors around her and should have just been left in the psyche ward. Not your best image for the books' heroine.
Collins' strength up until this point has been her ability to create deeply personal characters whom readers were drawn to. In this book, the characters were very shallow. There were points at which a member of Katniss' team was killed and I was like, "Who was that person again?" They were one dimensional. Nothing more than a name on a page created in order to be killed off.
What should have happened is that either Peeta or Gale loved Katniss so much that they ended up sacrificing themselves in order to secure her happiness with the other. Instead, **SPOILER**, the mentally unstable Katniss ends up living unhappily with the mentally unstable Peeta and Gale moves to another district. REALLY? Is that the best we could do?
It is too bad because I had high expectations from this book. It fell sadly short.
Sorely disappointed.... September 5, 2010 joally (San Diego, CA USA) 1 out of 3 found this review helpful
The first two books were amazing! I could not wait for this one to come out so I could find out which guy Katniss would end up with.
Sadly, this book did not touch my heart like the other two. This one was predictable and dull. The ending was incredibly unsatisfying. It's as if all that I invested emotionally in the characters through the entire trilogy was wasted so that the author could preach to me about the evils of war. While it was a technically "happy ending" there was no romance and passion in the book at all.
